Marketing

and Audience Engagement

Being in a private Christian school, we have strict rules about fundraising and marketing on campus; however, we still found interactive ways to distribute and learn about the "business side" of journalism. For example, our magazine and newspaper issues are available for free download on issuu.com, and we offered senior ads in the yearbook this year, free, of course. Personally, I have advertised our literary arts program via word of mouth to students and parents and through social media and posters.

This is a tutorial video I made for the seniors about how to make their senior ads. This went along with a flyer advertising the senior ads for our yearbook.

Left is a poster I made to advertise our literary arts program. Once it was printed, I went from room to room to distribute them to teachers. They all wanted to chat about journalism, and I think this campaign raised awareness among the staff. One of the biggest reasons our program has been diminishing in size is because other students donʻt know exactly what we do besides making the newspaper and maintaining our website. My hope is that these posters will inform students about our program and show them how they can do amazing things through literary arts.
